The 36th edition of the São Paulo International Short Film Festival celebrated the legacy of Zita Carvalhosa, founder and director of the Kinoforum Cultural Association, and her lifelong dedication to nurturing new talent and creating opportunities for Brazilian short films. The program featured 253 films from 60 countries, in an edition that focused on diverse regions, cinematic languages, and approaches to filmmaking.
Among the highlights, the festival celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Dogma Feijoada manifesto—a movement that has been instrumental in the discussion of Black representation in Brazilian cinema and presented the special program O Som no Cinema, inspired by the influence of sound on cinematic narrative. The program also featured Nocturnu, dedicated to horror and fantasy, and a selection of animated films by female directors from Eastern Europe.
This edition also celebrated the intersections between cinema, education, and the public, with activities such as Short & Market, the children’s and teens program, the Kinoforum Workshops, and the USP-Kinoforum Connection. In this way, the Festival reaffirmed its mission to foster connections, train new filmmakers, and expand opportunities for short films to reach wider audiences, keeping Zita Carvalhosa’s legacy alive.
