Unlimited Showcase

Paying homage to Mário Peixoto’s classic of the same name, the Unlimited Showcase reaches its eighth edition, bringing together films nominated by the selection committees for the Brazilian, Latin American, and International sections. More than just a selection of experimental cinema, the program brings together works from diverse origins with similar concerns: beyond exploring new ways of looking at and conceptualizing images and sounds, they embody a desire for reinvention, challenging cinema to embrace its nature as a Lernaean Hydra.

In this edition, the three programs traverse chimerical paths: Decolonial Landscapes seeks to conceive of territories as collective existences shaped by memories, border violence, and other forms of prohibition. The Facts & Versions program investigates the instability of images, navigating the space between archives, recollections, and recreations. Meanwhile, Chapters of Apocalypse envisions scenarios of collapse and transformation to reflect on the present and the future.

Stemming from diverse inspirations and origins, these films share less a specific theme than a common restlessness: the urge to reinvent how we view the world through a kaleidoscopic lens. It is within this convergence of forms, ideas, and sensibilities that the Unlimited Showcase invites the audience to discover new ways of seeing.
